On Ground Works Program

Coorong Tatiara Local Action Plan

On Ground Works Program

Steadily increasing levels of landholder participation in on ground works has been a highlight of the LAP's success, with more than two thirds of the areas landholders being actively involved in more than 200,000 ha of on-ground works projects. The LAP's on-ground works program has been able to deliver up to 80% of all external funding on-ground. This is due to the large scale of the project and the considerable support of the Coorong and Tatiara District Councils.

The Coorong Tatiara LAP has worked closely with the community to identify our priority issues, develop a range of recommended land management and biodiversity enhancement options, and implement these on the ground. Alone, no single landholder can solve these problems, but with a district wide effort we can make a real difference.

Incentive rates are based on a sound cost sharing framework determined by a benefit cost analysis. All works are subject to an agreement with strict guidelines including maintenance periods. Payments are only made following a successful inspection of completed works.

Up until the end of 2013 on ground works incentives were offered for; Stabilising Sandhills and Blowouts, Clay Spreading, Perennial Pasture Establishment, Salt Tolerant Pasture Establishment, Farm Forestry, and Fodder Shrubs.

Works eligible for funding in 2014 through to September 2016 are;

  • Revegetation Projects – windbreaks and blocks.

  • Protection and enhancement of remnant native vegetation.

  • Protection and enhancement of wetlands.

  • Weed, rabbit, fox and other pest control where there is a demonstrated threat to biodiversity.

  • Funding for sandhill stabilisation, earthworks, or clay spreading may be available where the site will be sown down to native vegetation or native grasses.
